**New Treatment Option for Low Sex Drive in Postmenopausal Women**

We are pleased to announce that Addyi, a daily pill to treat low libido in women, has been approved by the FDA to include postmenopausal women up to age 65.

This expansion of approval will provide new treatment options for older women who may be experiencing low sex drive. However, experts emphasize that treating low libido requires a comprehensive approach, taking into account physical and emotional health.

It's essential to note that Addyi should not be taken within two hours of consuming alcohol, as this can increase the risk of side effects such as low blood pressure and fainting.

About Addyi

Addyi, sometimes referred to as "female Viagra," is a medication specifically designed to treat hypoactive sexual desire disorder (HSDD) in women. Originally developed as an antidepressant, it was later found to have potential benefits for low libido.

After two previous rejections by the FDA, Addyi was approved in 2015 following additional research and advocacy efforts. Today, it remains the only FDA-approved oral medication for HSDD.

Expert Reaction

Cindy Eckert, founder and CEO of Sprout Pharmaceuticals, praised the FDA's decision to expand Addyi's approval, calling it a "milestone" in prioritizing female sexual health. Other women's health experts also expressed support for the decision.

"This expansion will allow us to better address the needs of postmenopausal women who want to maintain their sex life," said G. Thomas Ruiz, MD, an OB-GYN at MemorialCare Orange Coast Medical Center in Fountain Valley, CA.

Dr. Mary Jane Minkin, a clinical professor at Yale University, noted that while the approval was "quite reasonable" based on available data, more research is needed to fully understand the medication's effects.

Important Safety Information

Addyi carries a warning for potential side effects when combined with alcohol. To reduce the risk of fainting, it's recommended to wait at least two hours after drinking before taking Addyi.
