In a phase 3 clinical trial, daraxonrasib improved survival rates and reduced the risk of death by nearly half among participants with pancreatic cancer who had previously been treated with chemotherapy.
The researchers found that daraxonrasib: * Reduced the overall risk of death by 60% compared to those treated with chemotherapy * Helped shrink or eliminate tumors in trial participants
The findings were published in the New England Journal of Medicine and presented at the American Society of Clinical Oncology (ASCO) 2026 annual meeting.
What is Daraxonrasib?
Daraxonrasib is an experimental medication that targets a specific gene mutation found in pancreatic cancer cells. The RASolute 302 clinical trial involved 500 participants with solid tumors and activating RAS mutations, which are present in 92% of pancreatic cancer cases.
Participants were given doses of daraxonrasib orally once a day, with the phase 3 dose set at 300 milligrams (mg). The researchers focused on 168 participants who had been previously treated with chemotherapy.
Results
The results showed that: * Participants using daraxonrasib had an average survival rate of 13 months from diagnosis to death, compared to 6 months for those treated with standard chemotherapy * Tumors remained under control for a median of about 7 months among participants on daraxonrasib, compared to about 3 months for those treated with chemotherapy * About 31% of trial participants saw their tumors shrink or disappear, compared to 11% who received chemotherapy
Experts are encouraged by the findings and believe that this is an "extraordinarily hopeful moment" for the pancreatic cancer field.
